Notes: The Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast site was inscribed as a World Heritage Site (WHS) by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1986. The site is of outstanding universal value and meets two of the criteria set out in the World Heritage Convention, namely it: i). is an outstanding example representing major stages of the earth’s history, including the record of life, significant on-going geological processes in the development of landforms, or significant geomorphic or physiographic features. ii). contains superlative natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance. The Site occupies approximately 70ha of land and encompasses a further 160ha of sea along the North Antrim Coast.
